There is an autumn that can be heard. And it is about to arrive in Predazzo: a new and fascinating concept set to bring the sound of great singer-songwriters to the heart of Val di Fiemme.
This year, autumn in Predazzo will sound like rock, singer-songwriter music and some of the most distinctive international voices. This is MusicAutunno, a new music festival bringing a programme to the heart of Val di Fiemme designed to connect mountain audiences with leading artists from the Italian and international music scene.
For the autumn season, the Teatro Comunale di Predazzo becomes a venue dedicated to live music and culture, with a programme focused on artistic quality and the opportunity to experience major concerts in an Alpine setting, attracting music lovers from beyond the valley.
The project is built around a clear idea: great music should not belong exclusively to major cities. It can reach the mountains, meet new audiences and transform a local theatre into a stage with an international outlook.
The first event features Michael McDermott
The opening event of MusicAutunno is scheduled for Friday, October 2, at 9 p.m., with Michael McDermott, the Chicago-born singer-songwriter and musician whose work stands among the most distinctive voices of the American rock, folk and songwriting tradition.
His career began in 1991 with the release of 620 W. Surf, a debut album that immediately attracted the attention of both critics and Stephen King. Over the years, the writer and musician developed a relationship based on mutual admiration and friendship, with King repeatedly praising McDermott as one of the outstanding songwriters of his generation.
McDermott’s artistic journey is deeply rooted in the great American songwriting tradition, drawing on influences ranging from Greenwich Village folk to rock and soul, with artists such as Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits and the Rolling Stones among his reference points.
Above all, however, his career of more than three decades has been defined by a strong commitment to artistic independence.
A special connection with Italy
Michael McDermott’s connection with Italy has grown steadily over the years, reaching a significant milestone in 2022, when he received the Premio Tenco International Lifetime Achievement Award, further recognising his contribution to the world of singer-songwriter music.
In Predazzo, McDermott will perform songs from his latest album, Flowers From The Graveyard, a record that moves between acoustic and electric sounds while bringing together some of the most recognisable elements of his songwriting.
The album includes The Best We Get, driven by an immediate rock energy, while But For The Little Moments takes a more intimate and reflective approach, drawing inspiration from the cinema of Woody Allen. The Future, meanwhile, adds a more explicitly socially engaged dimension to the setlist.
It will be an evening dedicated to American songwriting, with McDermott’s voice and writing at the centre of a concert that officially opens the MusicAutunno programme.
Predazzo, a new cultural appointment
The festival also aims to broaden the cultural offering of the area and strengthen Predazzo’s role as a destination capable of hosting major events beyond the traditional tourist seasons.
After the summer months and before winter arrives, autumn becomes another season to experience through live concerts, culture and encounters.
And the first event already comes with an international name.
MusicAutunno officially opens on October 2 at 9 p.m. at the Teatro Comunale di Predazzo, featuring Michael McDermott.
